LEGO Worlds

Post by Not Em on Mon Jun 01, 2015 11:30 pm

Now in all the excitement of Johnneh's wedding (congrats again, bro!) some other exciting news has been swept under. Somehow, under everyone's noses, LEGO made a second massive game that no one's heard about until basically today. Introducing LEGO Worlds, what seems to be a mix of Minecraft and the old LEGO Creator game. Everyone's associated Minecraft with LEGO, so it's interesting to see them take that the full nine yards. This looks really cool, excited to see where they go with it.

I'm even more surprised LEGO is doing this exclusively through Steam.

... Workshop support, maybe?

The running animations look a bit like Lego Universe animations to me.

Wow.

Y'see, I've always sorta wanted some kind of Lego-based game where everything is made of Lego elements, you can build whatever you want, and then you can play with it all as a Lego 'fig.

And all of a sudden Lego seems to have popped up out of the blue with... well, it sure sounds like it's exactly that.

Soo... yeah. Wow. Razz

Now, I wonder if they'd make it possible to import LDD models into the game...? Twisted Evil

So this is a LOT like I imagined LEGO Universe would be. Perfect the game engine, make it massively multiplayer, add a basic storyline, and you'd have what I believe was the original concept for LU.

They already said on the game's Steam community forum that you can import LDD models into the game.

I can't tell if this is multiplayer, but it looks like it isn't. That's good, to me, because it means we won't have to deal with LEGO's penchant for massive, bulky moderation techniques attempting to keep everything kid-friendly.

About Worlds? Because absolutely no one I'd talked to had heard of this more than a few days before it was announced.

I heard a brief mention on Facebook the same day you posted this. Razz

Honestly, this is extremely impressive in a way. Seeing as how so many games nowadays go on and on with their ads and building up hype forever before their release, often made worse if the game doesn't stand up to expectations, Lego popping this up out of the blue is rather impressive.
...Of course, maybe they were just saving money on advertising. Razz

But really, how on earth does this not come up at all? The Bionicle reboot was leaked, like, forever before it was officially announced, and that's been similar for basically everything. Yet this wasn't even a blip on the radar.

...For that matter, I wonder if they even tested it? Razz It's officially-released, right now, right?

It's steam early access so not official release. Following similar launches to a lot of games these days, pay for the beta and get the finished product later.

Game is definitely the answer to parents on the lmbs talking about minecraft and its "violence". Not sure why they picked steam to offer the game, maybe once finished it will be available drm free from Lego directly.

The game's Steam page provides details on this, stating that Multiplayer is not currently available at the moment, but it will be in the future (full release). You can expect the same moderation techniques.

I heard about it before this topic because I saw it on Steam and I'm always on Steam. Razz

@ Leg - Ads for it were in a few LEGO instruction manuals, plus Brickset ran a news report over it.  Though LEGO did keep it secret for the most part.
