BIONICLE 2015 CONFIRMED

Post by The Cracken on Sun Jul 06, 2014 1:31 pm

EDIT: WHEE BIONICLE 2015 IS COMING

Original post:

So... This may very well be a hoax, but supposedly, some guy who works for LEGO leaked a possible 2015 Bionicle displays.

If this is true, seems like the Kanohi Ignika is back..... xD

I wonder how they'd work the story. The kids who were into Bionicle back in the day are young adults now, and since Bionicle has been on a 5-year hiatus, it's entirely possible that they might restart the story, or put it on an alternate world or something that can be started without any relation to the previous story.

Would much rather see an actual continuation, since the story wasn't technically supposed to end where it did. Plus, there's a lot of extra after-story that they could catch up with. xD

Granted, there's at least a 95% chance that this is just fake, and not really going to happen anytime soon, if ever.

If Bionicle returns I wonder if they will have Greg Farshtey involved writing the storyline for this product? Now Greg Farshtey has been working for LEGO for nearly 14 years. (If I must say?) I wonder if they will bring in a different author for making Bionicle live longer? IDK if this is real or not. But I read something about this from some users on the worldwide web about a brand new action figure type of LEGO theme and I don't really know if it is going to be a reboot of Bionicle or just a brand new theme.

Greg Farshtey has actually been working on the Bionicle story since Bionicle ended, just on his own personal site or something along those lines.  Also, pretty sure this might be fake, becase I see what looks exactly like Gresh.  I'm definately going to be doing more research.  If they did anything, I would really just like some re-releases of older sets.

BIONICLE COMING BACK?????????????

YAHOO!!!

Wait a second...

WHY DIDN'T IT COME BACK WHEN I WAS YOUNGER AND HAD MORE TIME TO ENJOY IT??????????

But it could all be a hoax...

Or it could all be legit...

We'll wait and see...

I sure hope they have better quality pieces. During the Mahri Era I think there plastic quality deteriorated and stayed that way til the end, because several to many of my sister's and my Bionicles from the Mahri Era to the Glatorian Era have cracks in their hand, leg, thigh, etc. joints, while the ones from the Voya Nui Era on back are in great condition. That should be the opposite, because my sister and I were rough on our Bionicles before the Mahri Era, but from the era forward, we were very good to them.

Anyhow, hope Bionicle comes back!

Agreed. Razz LEGO reduced the quality of their plastic around 2007, especially with the lime pieces... My Bionicle pieces from 2001-2006 are just fine, but a lot of the limbs and hands have cracks and such from the Mahri era on.

Most of our MAHRI stuff is cracked. That was the worst year for plastic pieces.
Ah whether the thing is real or fake, I can't say I'll be spending money on any new toys--unless they release some of the old ones I never got.
Alas, if the rumours are even true, that they would release more BIONICLE after Scare and I decided we're pretty much done with most of it.
Lot of great memories playing that together. Lot of laughing so hard ima gonna faint moments.  Very Happy

BIONICLE s been good to us. LEGO has been good to us.

Source seems decently credible, heard he leaked Hero Factory stuff before this so he gets some cred in my book.

As for the image; I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. Looks pretty preliminary and that's to be expected at this point. Wouldn't expect things to be final just yet.

Hoping it's real and will definitely be going broke buying them.

Looking closely at the image, I can make out what look like a Hero Factory-ascetic about the sets, which confirms my suspicions: if Lego brings Bionicle back, they're going to ruin it. It won't be the awesome, somewhat dark and gritty atmosphere that always hung over the series (creating awesome results), but rather the light-hearted "fun" of the HF series.

Bionicle had a good run, but it lived its life. Don't destroy that memory rebooting it.

IMO, it was the grittiness that killed it. Razz From 2005-on, Greg made it darker and darker to the point where it was kinda didn't have an effect anymore.

Edit: JRED HOLD ON GLATORIAN WAS THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO BIO SINCE 2001 D:

It wouldn't have been half as good without that dark side. The problem, is that it overused that dark side, without any contrast to it. Razz

I liked the darkness in BIONICLE--that is, the light was made twice as desirable and epic by the contrast.  No one can appreciate the good in any story if there wasn't badness and sorrow and despair before the happy ending .  Otherwise it's all cheap happiness like Josh said.

I never noticed the excess darkness, Johnny. But I
dropped off reading the stories at some point. Razz

Re: Official Bionicle 2015 Discussion Topic

Post by The Cracken on Mon Jul 07, 2014 1:03 pm

I started in 2001 when the story began. Razz 2004/Metru Nui took a noticeable turn with the first real character death (Likhan) and 2005-on kept making the story grimmer. I think part of it was Greg's writing style, I noticed the same sorts of descriptions used for like every bad guy and situation as it went on. Razz It's also like... 2006, go find the Mask of Life! Oh, it fell in the ocean. 2007, find it again! Oh, it fell in the Core... 2008, find it AGAIN! Oh, Mata Nui was sealed inside it and sent off onto another planet... Razz

The ending was really rushed. But, that's LEGO's fault. The Bara Magna arc was supposed to last at least 3 years, and 2010 was supposed to have the Glatorian explore the jungle planet mentioned once, with Bionicle dinosaurs which you know would have been awesome... Razz

...what ever happened to everybody trapped in the Red Star with Mavrah? Razz Wasn't he there? I don't remember..

Re: Official Bionicle 2015 Discussion Topic

Post by Lone-Star on Mon Jul 07, 2014 3:36 pm

I think Bionicle could have had an absolutely epic-sauce ending if it were just given more time. The STARS series was HORRID. It reduced epic heroes like Tahu and Takanuva into Matoran-sized widgets. It tried to combine the various eras in a sloppy way. About the only thing I think was good about it was the return of the original Mask of Light (I preferred the first over the second) and the "golden" pieces one could collect to put on Tahu. That was it. It ended with a ppppphhhhhhtttttt.

At least, that's how it ended with regards to the sets. I thought the storyline ended semi-well.

I agree that the darkness of the Bionicle stories made it much more intriguing. It made it realistic. It allured the imaginations of older kids who could appreciate the meaning behind the struggle between light and darkness. It made the triumph of light all the more epic.

Personally, my favorite era (with regard to the sets) was the Metru Era (excluding the Hordika). My sister and I have all the Toa Metru and Toa Lhikan, as well as Turaga Dume, Tehutti, Ahkmou, and Vhisola; and a couple of Vahki. The Metru sets were the perfect balance between the somewhat impractical use of gears in the Mata Nui Era and the somewhat impractical use of flexibility from the Voya Nui Era to the Glatorian Era. Their pieces are as durable as anything, and all in all it was a great plot and great toys.

I must admit, however, that I like the Mata Nui Era, too. In that era there was the dawn of the original Toa Mata, who were some of the best Bionicles in appearance. Then there were the Rahkshi, some of the most balanced and versatile Bionicles out there. Then there was Toa Takanuva and Makuta Teridax, whose sets remain classics.

I have the same fear as Kojan: I foresee a Hero-Factory-childishness on the horizon. I hope I'm wrong.

But who cares? I probably won't get a single set anyway, unless it's very good. Razz

I am willing to bet a lot of imaginary money on Bionicle not returning in 2015. To be honest, I hope that it doesn't; a return next year would be much too soon, in my opinion, and would probably result in a rushed storyline that would not catch on with many old fans.

In response to your criticisms of Bionicle getting too dark -- I loved the dark storyline. It took itself seriously, which was really cool for a story based on a LEGO toy line. I will admit the storyline wasn't for everyone, though; it got a little convoluted, which I liked, but it probably discouraged younger people from becoming fans.

Well awesome dark storyline or childish hero-factory storyline, it can't get anyworse than the Ben10 action figures....

Aaaaaand I just jinxed it, we'll probably find out that they're actually simpsons action figures (and I really shoudl stop saying lego could get worse, becuase last time I said that simpsons popped up as a theme). Razz
