Whoa, these are awesome. Razz The owl in particular is really good in my opinion. Are you a part of Dalu's LEA? http://legozoneforum.forumh.biz/f28-league-of-endless-artistry

That cat is adorable! Very Happy

You did a great job with the furr on the deer--it's very real-looking--and the horse's body. Very Happy

I've got a suggestion with the horse's and deer's eyes, but I'm going to have to get a pic or two to show what I mean.  I'll do that for you soon. Wink

Re: The Mouse Whisperer's Drawings

Post by Dalu on Wed Aug 06, 2014 4:05 pm

I'll try my best to explain: you'll have to tell me if I'm not making any sense. Razz  I don't have eyes down AT ALL myself, but I have learned a couple things when working on little portraits of things.

Two things:

Reflections and Pupil vs. Iris.

You had a slight reflection in your owl pic, with the white dot you drew.  That REALLY helps make they eyes look real.  The types of reflections you could draw vary.  The white dot is the easiest one I think and it's harder to mess up with it.  You can also do even more detailed reflections if you want, like in this pic by Shasta:

Spoiler:

But that's not so easy at first, especially when you're just using a pencil.

The pupil vs. iris thing is mostly with humans or more close-up and detailed animals, and I don't want to ramble too much, so I won't bother going into that one right now. Wink

So yeah, just basically adding a white dot to one corner of the eye really helps.  In the case of the deer, I do see some white dots, but the larger the eye, the more white looks best with it.

I hope i made sense.  Embarassed

Ah yeah that makes sense!  Razz I've tried different things. I'll have to try making the reflections more detailed next time, maybe that would make my drawings of people look more realistic!

Thanks so much!  Very Happy

Thanks, LOL!  Razz It looks like an eye. This picture is actually just a different version of this:

I just mirrored it and inverted the colors to make it look different.  Razz I like the original (this one) better 'cause it's easier to tell what it is. I was just messing around with the effects and thought the darker one looked kinda cool.  Razz

That IS sweet!  I like the sun effect and the horses mane and tale!  And the shells are a nice, colourful touch! Very Happy

I've got a suggestion with the sky. Very Happy   When you're colouring try to go horizontally in the lines.  When they go up and down, it can make it look more like  a waterfall. Razz  It's amazing the different effects we can make just from going different directions with our pencil.

Very cool!

And, if I might suggest, define the lines a bit more on the horse and the girls neck, idk, maybe its just the way its showing up? But I love the depth to it and the plant by the horse Smile

Re: The Mouse Whisperer's Drawings

LOL, I agree about the line definition, including the one for the girl's right leg. Wink

I love the forest, and grass, and the depth for the trees going back! The bow and arrow are gorgeous, as well as the detail on her sleeves!  Great job on the fingers: that is SUCH a hard part, at least for me.
I would suggest thinning out the wrists and arms a bit.  If you look at your own arm, you can see that it gets thicker the further you go up the forearm.  Thinner wrists would show the difference between her hands and arms more clearly. Wink

Btw, love the horse's ears and the way her mane goes over her eye like that.
