J-red's Reviews

Post by Johnnyred on Mon Mar 03, 2014 11:43 am

Hey, y'all, Johnnyred here! This is my official topic for LEGO reviews.  I'll be reviewing many of the sets that I own, and even sometimes my MOCs, or other people's MOCs (Only users from LZP though, or at least for right now)

As of right now, I'll only be doing picture reviews, but sometime soon, I'll hopefully be able to start video reviews sometime soon as well.

First review will be the  #6932 Stardefender 200, coming sometime tonight.

Keep checking this top post for more info and which set I will be reviewing next.

For my next review, I will be hosting a poll of the sets I have on hand.  This poll will be in the Review section.

J-red, out!

J-red's Reviews: #6932 Stardefender 200

Post by Johnnyred on Mon Mar 03, 2014 12:54 pm

Set Number: 6932
Set Name: Stardefender 200
Series: Futuron
MSRP: $25
What I Paid: $50
Where?: The Plastic Brick (Online LEGO shop)
Year Released: 1987
Number of Parts: 242
Number of Decals: 0
Number of Minifigs: 2
Number of Instruction Books: 1
Number of Steps: 17 (Plus some ministeps)

Welcome to the very first of J-red's reviews!  Today we are looking at the old school Stardefender 200, the oldest LEGO set I own!

Overview of the box.

Spoiler:

The box is awesome.  It's that oldschool, flipflap box.  You can open up the top flap, just like all the larger sets from the eighties and the ninties, and look in on all the parts you have in the sets.  Pretty sweet.  The back of the box also shows other awesome things you can build from this set, something that LEGO no longer does, but should return to doing.  I mean, seriously... one of the coolest thing about LEGO is the fact that you can take apart the set and build something else out of it.

Above the slide out tray that came with a lot of the older, large sets.  Pretty cool, you could use this to keep from losing parts, or to organize them.

The instruction booklet.  Pretty sweet.

Awwww... yeah... I LOVE these old books.  There are no numbered bags, you just have to dump all the parts out, the instructions don't tell you what parts you need for each instruction.  In my opinion, it's much more fun to build this way.

Below is a list of special parts in this set, most of which you cannot get anymore.
Spoiler:

Old school minifig head.  Not the absence of the hole on the top of the minifig's cranium.

THIS LARGE CANOPY WITH THE NUMBER 200 EMBLAZIONED ON IT.  This canopy is only in ONE other set besides the Stardefender.

There's this unique part with hinges for the octogon canopies.  Not really seen anymore.

The minifig torso, love this style, quite probably my favorite minifig torso of all time, notice the Classic Space/LEGOLand Space logo.  Sometime I'll do a review of LEGO Space as a whole, diferentiating amongst all the series.

The printed bricks in this set. Not counting the minifig or the canopy.

Now, on to the building.

This is a little mini rover that can fit into the back of the Star Defender.  Nothing special, but a decent little add on.  Fits quite nicely.  Below is the rover with a minifig on it.  One thing that is awesome about the rover is the fact that this actually goes along with the main model.  Most of the time in recent sets the mini models in the sets are just some cheap-o model that just seems to be thrown in for whatever the protagonist is of the set.  With older LEGO sets, typically any mini models in the set were made to connect to or be a part of the main model.

The main body of the ship.  (The pods separate to be either cargo pods or escape pods, whichever you prefer)

Pretty solid, very fun build.  Looks great.  Honestly, this is one of my favorite of the spaceships that LEGO has ever made.  Can't wait to get home and fly it alongside my Galactic Enforcer.

These are the little pods that attach on each side that can be used for cargo or personell.  Whichever you prefer.

The two pods ALSO connect to make a small craft.

Below are images of the set as a whole.

Interior of the ship, not too much there.

The crew alongside the ship with the rover parked in it's spot.

The crew in their positions.

And the ship as a whole.

Overall, this is a great set.  Honestly, I see no flaws at all with this set.  It even avoids something that most LEGO Space sets of the time had, and that's the lack of a decent seal around the canopy, but this one nailed that excellently.  Looks armed, but not too heavyily.  VERY structurally sound, I've dropped it a few times, but it stays together pretty well, with only a few small parts coming off.

The mini-builds in it, (The pods and the rover) are good, solid, and playable.  I really like the fact that you can detach both pods, and attach them together.  The set, in my book gets 5 stars.  It's swooshability is unpared,   Excellent set.

Hope this was some help to you all, if you have any questions you would like to ask me feel free, or if you think there are things that I should add to my reviews let me know.  ALL feedback is welcome.  until our next review...

J-red, out!

I do have a lot more old sets that I will review later on.  I.E. when I get back home to Texas.  Razz

A lot of Adventurers, Aquazone, the complete collection of Arctic, some Alpha Team, Life on Mars, Rock Raiders, and some other city related sets.  I'm sure I have some other older series, I just don't remember what all I have.  So be looking forward to all those reviews.

Bro.  The old Arctic sets were so legit.  I'm very excited for the new ones.

Nice work, man, that was entertaining. Razz

I was like Weird!!! when I saw you open the box, it's so cool that LEGO caters to the AFOLs with little things like "retro" box builds and all. Razz

That set looks really really cool. o.o

Danke!  The set is really cool!  Well worth the buy, and LEGO has TONS of 'em left!  I can't wait to get the Ecto 1!

Also, I added a few things to the LZP description.

Ah, I figured that was what you meant by the 8x8 slope. Razz I've got a few of those, you're right, they kinda went out of production with LEGO back in the early 2000's. I did get one with a LEGO Agents set in 2009, though. Razz
