IMPORTANT: Regarding Ads on the PCG Website

Post by Lone-Star on Mon May 27, 2013 11:00 am

Gentlemen:

I have recently been disturbed by the decision to allow ads onto the PCG website. I am asking as a Sub-Council member that either the ads be utterly removed (which would be my preference), or that they only be allowed when a person is NOT logged in to their PCG account.

Within the span of just a minute or two on the PCG forum, I was unfortunate to discover two distasteful ads: one was a sensual ad from Netflix, another was an inappropriate ad from I think AT&T. Gentlemen, I cannot endure such ads. Honestly, unless I'm totally oblivious, I don't even think ads are necessary on a free forum because we don't need sponsors.

If the ads are allowed to remain active while I am logged in to my PCG account, I must regret to announce that I can no longer be in the PCG. I do not want to sacrifice visual convictions in order to be on the PCG. As much as I love and am dedicated to the Group, I love my convictions--and, more importantly, the God of my convictions--more.

Please don't take me the wrong way. I am NOT trying to sound demanding, but I strongly urge you to remove ads from the PCG forum.

Honor. Valor. COOKIES!

Sorry about that Scarecrow! The Ads come as a default to the site (I have no clue why) I'm still getting reaccustomed to the admin panel and I've never dealt with the ads before, Pik was the one that did all that stuff here, however, the problem has been dealt with successfully.

If you're still experiencing ads now... I have no clue how to fix the problem...

I want it to be known that we did not choose to have these ads, they just came with the forum as do all forumotion sites.

This was not our decision. Forummotion, much to my despise, automatically places ads on sites with more than 15 members. I only just discovered this. There is no way to remove these ads except if we set up a donation system and everyone chips in a dollar or two to pay for the ad removal service. Alternately, you could install Adblock Plus, which would take care of the problem for free. I see this second option being much more doable.

I would like to stress again that none of us admins turned ads on. None of us are making money. The Forummotion company needs to make money, and they allow us to host a forum for free. And of course, of they want return on their investment.

I'm very sorry about this, but it's something none of us could help.

Oh dear... That's not good... I completely understand Scare, I'm sorry that this happened. Maybe we could get some of that free ad-blocking tech? I agree with you. I don't want to be looking at anything I don't need to be seeing.

Somehow I'm not getting ANY ads on PCG.com..... I have no idea how this is happening... Not that I MIND not getting ads, but I wish I could tell YOU GUYS how to get the same result... Question

Adblock works wonders, Scare.

I straight up have no clue how Aaron managed to get rid of the ads here, but I'll ask, and get back to you guys.

I'm not getting any ads when I'm logged in. I did, but Pik helped Jred do something in the AP to make them guest-viewable only.

Thank'ee, all, for your input. Again, Kojan and J-red, I did not mean to come across demanding, and I certainly didn't mean to imply that you guys were trying to make some money off of putting ads on the Forum. Honestly, since I'm not very knowledgeable about stuff like that, I obviously made some errors in my observation. Razz

EDIT: The PCG is ad-free! Very Happy

Thanks for whatever you did to change things, J-red!

God bless y'all,

JSYK, I'm still seeing ads. It may have something to do with the fact that I haven't actually POSTED there, though, even though I'm signed in. Razz

ARGGH! I still get the one add above the log-in, even after I log-in. First thing up? NETFLIX baby. Yeah, no fun. Sad
Apparently Scare is NOT getting adds. Anyone know how that's happening? It's the same computer. Razz

Try making a few posts, cause I think there might be a post limit. Just add some comments asking about the kitchen facilities on some of our ships. Razz *Thinks of a great idea for a ship.* I'm gona make you your very own ship dedicated to serving food to hungry star-ship captains. Razz

Legotrain! You've been gone a while, mate. Here's the site link:

http://phoenixcommandgroup.forumotion.com/

It's set up almost exactly like the LZP forum, so it should be easy for you to sign up and use.
