Sheet Music Formatting Help

Post by The Cracken on Tue Feb 12, 2013 12:21 am

I transcribe music as a hobby of sorts, and recently I've downloaded MuseScore to write out lead sheets and other things with proper music notation. I'm rather new to formatting sheet music, I'm still trying to understand it all. I've transcribed this song, and uploaded it to Dropbox as a PDF file. Can someone look it over and let me know what changes should be made to the layout/text/format so that it's correctly written? I'm not really sure what I'm doing. Razz https://www.dropbox.com/s/cv0v4m5ak2hs7w5/Cheer%21%20Tear%EF%BC%9F%20Cheer%21%21%20-%20Lead%20Sheet.pdf

The first staff is the vocal melody, and the second one under that is the harmony part.

I would've liked to use repeats in some places... But they confuse me. I wasn't sure if they were really necessary or if things would just be confused more. For example, the verse section has 2 similar 8-bar patterns. They're exactly the same for the first 3 bars, and the next 5 differ. That would make an alternate ending look a little out-of-place, wouldn't it? The second verse also differs in that way, in addition to being half the length.

I figured the prechorus and chorus could use repeats, since they're the same (until the last chorus anyway), but IDK what to do...

Here's the song, for reference.

I hope someone can help, I'm not used to sheet music, really. xD Thanks in advance. Happy

I fixed up a few things, but sure, more help is good. xD

I'm just trying to find out if I should condense things more. Currently I have all parts written out without any repeats.

The verse has 2 similar 8-bar sections. The first 3 bars are the same, but the next 5 differ... I don't know if alternate endings/voltas would be suitable for that. The second verse also differs from the first one, and it's 8 bars, not 16.

The prechoruses and choruses (minus the last one) are exactly the same, to my recollection.

I found out just today that you can have more than one coda in a song, so I guess I could use one of those for the solo break and one for the final chorus/ending.

well there is nothing wrong with leaving in uncondesned,

composers condense for usually 1 of 2 reasons

to save paper, (and costs)
or to make sure musicians don't get lost in long lines of similar music.

with the second point you are pretty much fine since its not 24 bars of the same music. and honestly, you really don't need to add repeats if the music has repeating sections longer than... say... 24 or more bars. so with this song you should be fine.

OK, that's good to know. I'm relatively new to reading sheet music despite playing guitar for 4 years. xD

Thanks!

Thanks for the offer!

Oh, awesome! I'm halfway through watching SAO. Razz It's got a great soundtrack. I've written out several other songs from it as well.
