Legendary Pictures' Godzilla reboot news!!

Post by KaijuToonamiGuy on Sat Jul 14, 2012 7:10 pm

Hey guys!!

I somehow heard today from the Comic Con news center that the new Godzilla film is on the way!!

It won't be launching until 2014 though because you know the film is still in development just so the makers of this film could get it right.

The new Godzilla film will be another American reboot.

The production companies hired for this project are Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures.

No, it is not a sequel to the 1998 American Godzilla film since Sony's rights to that character expired since about 2003.

There has been a new poster revealed from Comic Con this year of the new Godzilla film.

So without further due, what do you guys all think about this?! Pretty neat, huh?

Hey, Joe!

I was wondering when in the world they would decide to release that thing! To think it was originally titled "Godzilla 2012" Razz I hope it doesn't have a bunch of immorality or swearing in it. Americans glory in that, you know, and always find a way to pollute their movies with it. I would really like to go to Godzilla 2014 and know that what I will be seeing will be a relatively clean movie with a classic Godzilla plot remade with an all-new CGI Gojira.

Here's to the Lizard! Very Happy

This Godzilla reboot is now in post-production atm. Also recently in the news center, they said that Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. had split from each other while working on this film project. The launch date is still May 16, 2014. (Which happens to be six days after my 23rd Birthday Very Happy ) But there hasn't been an official trailer as of yet. I think there will be a trailer made real soon like say in November-December or so. The filming of Godzilla is complete it's just in post-production right now with the visual effects and such.

Gareth Edwards (The director of Legendary Pictures' Godzilla) is now talking of making a possible sequel to Legendary Pictures' Godzilla. The sequel is rumored to have a Monster Island like in the movie Destroy All Monsters.

This is all I pretty much know right now.

Glad to hear there's a date for its release! I hope they don't have any inappropriate content...I can just see them putting some in there. :/

Anyhow, I personally hope they DON'T have a monster for Gojira to fight. Whether its the first 1950s Godzilla or the 1998 "Zilla," I tend to favor the Man vs. Godzilla approach rather than the Godzilla vs. Random Monster approach. However, if they have the right monster and don't make the plot cheesy, I'm sure it would be a landslide for special effects! Very Happy

As soon as you're aware of a trailer, please upload it here! I'm so anxious to see it! Wink

Godzilla 2014 Teaser Poster:

Sorry Scarecrow!! It is confirmed that Godzilla will fight two monsters.

IMO not having Godzilla fight other monsters, just having him fight the army, is just not the same spirit of the character.

Only in 1954 and 1984 has he only fought the army. But in 26 of the other ones he has fought other monsters.

But the '98 film by Roland Emmerich IMO wouldn't count as Godzilla since it is really just a lizard. Razz

Re: Legendary Pictures' Godzilla reboot news!!

LOL, I know that die-hard Godzilla fans despise Emmerich's film, but personally I liked the graphics design and wish they would've made a Godzilla II with a much more traditionally-radioactive Godzilla (like they did with the Godzilla Cartoons based on Emmerich's design).

I think a lot of Americans think Godzilla is corny, and one of the reasons I think they do is because of the monster fights. Of course, if you have a monster fight that is all digitally suped-up, that might make things a little more interesting and exciting, vs. two men in a suit doing clumsy martial art moves. Wink

But honestly, being a G-fan, I can't knock the classic Godzilla spirit too much. Especially if there is a shroud of mystery around the monsters he fights.

Personally I don't like it when the monster he fights has some sort of "spiritual" significance (e.g. Mothra or some episodes with King Ghidorah). It subtracts from the sci-fi and makes it more of a corny way to incorporate a "green moral" into the film, about how we should be kind to Good Mother Earth and not upset her applecart, else she'll send big bad monsters to squash mankind. Razz

Bottom line, I like a strictly sci-fi Godzilla, and if the monsters he fights have strictly sci-fi origins (even if they come from outer space), that's fine by me. Wink

As I am happy to report and you'll be happy to hear...

The trailer for Godzilla will be released at the same time The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug finally gets launched!

To Scarecrow: If you see the trailer for Godzilla in theaters when you go see The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug just tell me what you make of it. Okay?

I'm going to be gone all week next week so I'll probably not be able to post up the trailer on here like you all expected me to. Maybe let Scare do the job for me. Razz Anyway, I'll might go see The Hobbit after my trip and see what I make of it.

I watched it with Scare, and, aside from the general plot of destruction that makes my nerves all frazzled, I enjoyed hte suspense!

@Supe: BEWARE!!!! Environmentalist plot is the background: Godzilla comes to DESTROY WICKED MAN FOR CAUSING GLOBAL WARMING!!!!!  Razz

Unfortunately, from the Wikipedia article I read, that's not too far from the truth.  :/

However, if they don't have one of the characters get all preachy and get up on a box and start speaking to the homeless masses about how "Mother Gaia" got impatient and reared a great Lizard to punish her disobedient children, I think it will be pretty good. Wink

Hey, Pred, do you know what the rating for the movie will be (PG-13, R) and why? I want to make sure that I know beforehand if there's gonna be excessive language (I hope not) or inappropriate content (I PRAY not). Wink

Scare: I don't really know? Usually movies aren't rated yet at this time. It will only be rated R if there is a lot of blood in it or usage of the "F" word in it. But I doubt it would be rated R since usually the Godzilla films are only PG or PG-13.

Yeah, I REALLY hope they don't use the "f" word, or swear by the Lord, or things like that. Like you said, most of the Godzilla movies have been pretty mild and family friendly, save maybe some scattered scenes over the entire Godzilla history. Also, since the Wikipedia article (which may or may not be open to debate Razz  ) says that one of the focuses of the movie will be family, I'm hoping it will be fairly family-friendly.

Re: Legendary Pictures' Godzilla reboot news!!

To appeal to a large audience but not seem like a movie for children, I'm 99% certain that it will be rated PG-13. I highly doubt it'll be rated R, since it's just not that type of movie. The PG-13 rating means that they can use pretty much unlimited amounts of the d-word, h-word, and other low-profile swear words, which they will use. By MPAA standards, they can also use the f-word once. Most likely they won't, but you never know.

If you're interested, there is a site called PluggedIn that reviews TV shows, games, music, and movies from a Christian perspective telling you what religious, moral, or other issues there are with a certain piece of media, and will also tell you if they use any swear words. Personally, I detest PluggedIn, as they often blow very minor things in movies or games (games especially) into a massive red flag. From what I've read, the only games they actually like are rated "C", "E", or "E+10", which I hardly play. But that's just my preference. Maybe you'll find that you enjoy it immensely. Very Happy

The more time goes on, the more I dread that this Godzilla movie will be nothing but an environmentalist sermon, a fest of Green-god rhetoric, with some stupid moral about how wicked we humans are for overpopulating the earth and using too little solar energy.

I will try to bear with it...I will try to sit through the film and take it...I will try to enjoy Godzilla himself, detached from the "moral"...

But if it's bad enough I may throw up. Razz
