Oooh, cool. Razz (And also slightly gross. Chicken milk? I don't even wanna know how that's made Razz)

Just curious, does "illustrator class" mean "Adobe Illustrator"?

Re: Chicken Doodle Soup

Post by Moe Howahd on Tue Feb 23, 2016 11:11 am

So I was at work yesterday and I couldn't think of anything to draw

so I was like, what the heck, I'll draw me.

Spoiler:

Rough approximation of my appearance, constructed from memory. I'm definitely that buff. Razz

EDIT:

imma edit this cuz I have more drawings that I want to upload.

So recently I've been trying to make up designs for random stuff, as you've seen from a few of my previous drawings. I want to be able to create super awesome designs on command. So far it's been a little rough, but I'm having fun.

Spoiler:

^This guy was inspired by an alien from an XCOM game.

Spoiler:

^Idk where this guy came from. I kinda liked the blocky head design, so I tried to use it again.

Also I'm trying to draw people and faces more often. I'm pretty much sketching them out now, trying to nail down angles and solid proportion. Here are two.

Spoiler:

This is the longest drawing I've been able to make in a while. My aim here was to explore combinations of popular styles.

And finally, here's the last of the sketch faces I've worked on.

Spoiler:

Nothing fancy, just trying to work on slightly more technical stuff as well as personal style definition. I think I'm gonna move a little more towards realism from this point.

My stuff seems to have gone to faster, dirtier sketches rather than the long, drawn out and polished pieces I used to make. I'm not sure yet whether I like that or not.

Anyway, that's all for this dump. Let me know what you guys think. Criticisms are welcomed.

WOW! These drawings are incredible! They look kind-of realistic! Nice work Mr. Moe. (Or Mr. Chicken? Which name would you prefer?)

I wish I could draw that great. But believe me I am just the worst critic of my own artwork.

Anyways I obviously said I am not going to do anymore drawings. I am just going to put my focus on one specific field... Creative Writing!

I still want to do Comic Books and Graphic Novels, though. When my story ideas are at their final products (In a Novelization format) I am going to share them with some artists and see about writing Comic Book/Graphic Novel Scripts for them.

Anyways this time I am keeping really, really quiet about my story ideas right now. It is just so nobody could claim them.

I am still in the planning mode stage for a story at the moment. Right then I better get right to it.

This isn't a joke, my favorite part about the last two is the eyes-- not that they look great, which they do, but that they look focused, which is something I've never been able to do. I've basically given up drawing faces ever, because I can't draw eyes in focus. Faces in general kill me, but the eyes are just impossible to me. Razz

The XCOM inspired one is great, too, very good combination of human and alien styles, with the flowing priest-y outfit and the totally alien everything else Razz

I got one here that I want to put up cuz I ended up loving it a lot. Razz

Spoiler:

The was another of my portrait doodles, only for this one I wanted to go for something more precise. I never have liked the look that blending gave to a piece, so I decided to try hatching to make my shades.

Hatching is time consuming and hard, but I seriously love the honest traditional look that it puts to a piece. I think I'm gonna use it more often.

Sooooo I'm lovin the hatching.

I've made more stuff. Recently I've been really into a messier approach with intense darks to draw the eye.

Here's the most recent piece I scribbled out, using .5 and .7 mechanicals for the face and a side of 2B for the hair.

^^That one I used a photo reference.

I just got out of the last meet of the drawing class I was in this quarter. For the final we were required pull together styles from three different famous artists and unite them beneath a single theme of our choice. It was worth a lot of points. I tryharded. Razz

Finished product, probably 15-20 hours total:

Spoiler:

Ordinarily I draw in a small sketchbook, probably around 9x12" or so. This assignment was required to be on at least an 18x24" piece of paper, and learning the differences in mechanics between drawing small and drawing large was frustrating. Still, it was probably the most fun/rewarding drawing I've done in years.

That's as far as my skill takes me at this point. There are plenty of things that could be better, but overall I was happy with the outcome.

Lmk about thoughts/critiques/questions.

New drawing.

I finished this one a while ago but have been hesitant to upload it. I'm not too happy with the way the face turned out. But whatev. It'll never be perfect so I may as well just deal. Razz

Due to the ever-present impossibility of drawing hands, her hand does look like it's facing backwards, but it IS a well-drawn hand. Razz

I actually didn't notice the grenade until the second time I looked at it, which is a pretty important part of the drawing. xD I love it! I think the face is great, at least her eyes are focused, you seem to have gotten that down rather well. 10/10 IGN.

Also, Carrot's looking particularly vicious today! Epic...

Your Carrot drawing almost makes me think of both the Indominous Rex (from Jurassic World) and the giant monster Gamera at the same time. Razz Well done! Very Happy
